People in Egypt will soon be able to travel around more quickly and easily than ever before thanks to a 1,000km high-speed rail transportation system that is set to be built by Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels in partnership with Orascom Construction (MONORAIL) and Siemens Mobility. The $3b project was announced over the weekend.
In addition to reducing travel time for millions of Egyptians, the rail line will also be used for freight transportation.
The rail line will connect the city of El-Alamein on the Mediterranean coastline with the city of Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea. In between, the line will also pass through New Cairo City, the country’s administrative capital.
