Now you can pay for parking at your destination through Google Maps

Parking just got a whole lot easier in the USA, as drivers now have the option to pay for street parking through Google Maps, as part of the app’s expanded partnership with transportation software companies Passport and ParkMobile. Not only that, but Google also announced it will be extending the contactless payment feature to public transport users.

Google Maps’ pay for parking features is set to expand via Android, to more than 400 cities across the USA including Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and New York. The feature will soon be made available through the iOS version of the app.

why it matters
Whilst our lives have essentially become digitalized thanks to COVID-19, big tech is finding new and innovative ways for society to stay protected. The idea is to help users pay for parking without touching a meter – a compelling feature in our current COVID-19 era.
