Aramco is feeling gassy!

Somebody is feeling ambitious – Saudi’s energy giant Aramco has awarded engineering, procurement, and construction contracts worth $10b for the development of its Jafurah gas field. Due to advanced extraction methods needed, the capital expenditure at Jafurah is expected to reach $68b over the first 10 years of its development. But the rewards are bigger and worth investing.

Jafurah gas field is anticipated to deliver 200 milion standard cubic feet per day of gas by 2025. The mighty Jafurah program also facilitates the delivery of gas through a dedicated surface network, a gas processing plant, and transfer pipelines. Jafurah is expected to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s goal of producing half of its electricity from gas as the kingdom pursues its 2060 net-zero target.

Why it matters

Aramco expects the field to produce around 550,000 barrels per day of gas liquids and condensates, which has the potential to make Saudi Arabia one of the world’s largest natural gas producers.
