Aramco Steps on the Gas

  • Saudi Aramco has announced contracts worth $7.7 billion to expand the processing capacity of its Fadhili gas plant to 4 billion standard cubic feet per day. Currently, the plant can process 2.5 billion standard cubic feet per day, with the expansion slated for completion by November 2027. The move aligns with Aramco's strategy to significantly increase gas production by over 60% from 2021 levels by 2030. Engineering, procurement, and construction contracts for the expansion have been awarded to South Korea's Samsung Engineering and GS Engineering & Construction Corporation, along with Nesma & Partners, in which Saudi sovereign fund PIF acquired a stake last year.

  • This initiative underscores Aramco's commitment to bolstering its gas infrastructure and meeting growing energy demands. Additionally, the expanded Fadhili plant is set to enhance sulphur production by an additional 2,300 metric tons per day. Amid efforts to diversify its energy portfolio, Saudi Arabia has mandated Aramco to revise its oil production capacity target to 12 million barrels per day from 13 million barrels per day.
