What do Pikachu and the Chevy Silverado have in common?

As any Pokémon fan will tell you, the answer is: electricity!

General Motors (GM) finally announced the arrival of the electric version of the classic Chevrolet Silverado pickup. The long-awaited car is expected to run over 400 miles on a single charge, which is pretty impressive. GM said the new model will be produced at its electric vehicle (EV) plant in Michigan. The sale date for the e-Chevy Silverado hasn’t been announced yet, but word on the street is that it will be available by or before 2024.

This is one of GM’s latest efforts to become a leader in the electric vehicle race — it has committed to launching 30 new EV models by 2025.

why it matters
GM is upping their game in order to compete with other conventional carmakers by "electrifying" their pickup offering. Rivals who are going EV beyond sedans include Ford (its e-pickup is due out next year), Stellantis (formerly known as Fiat Chrysler), Rivian, and of course, EV heavyweight Tesla.
