Twitter wants to head straight in your email inbox

So much news coming from Twitter (TWTR) this week, it’s almost hard to keep up!

After announcing that it is setting up a community-based fact-checking feature named Birdwatch, Twitter revealed it bought newsletter platform Revue for an undisclosed amount. Revue, one of Substack’s main competitors, is a Dutch startup with big-name clients such as Vox Media and The Markup.

You may be wondering what Twitter has to do with newsletters, but the social media firm explained this will allow users in the writing and publishing industry who have built a considerable following to connect with their subscribers in an easy manner. Think Twitter users signing up for newsletters from their favorite accounts – that sort of thing! Their shares did jump 6% after the news broke, which at least shows investor enthusiasm.

why it matters
Twitter is trying as hard as possible to diversify its business and find other revenue streams, so this purchase is a technical move on their part. However, we will have to wait to find out how much user engagement this new feature will generate in the future.
