Oh, hi again, Ma!

Alibaba’s (BABA) founder, Jack Ma, has finally made a public appearance nearly three months after his IPO debacle with the Chinese regulators, which led to an inquiry into Alibaba’s monopolistic practices. His appearance sent the company’s shares into a frenzy.

Though the appearance was virtual (who has in-person meetings these days anyway?), Ma made his appearance by video call while talking to 100 rural teachers receiving the Jack Ma Rural Teachers Award, set up by the Jack Ma Foundation, which celebrates outstanding rural teachers every year.

why it matters
Jack Ma is to Alibaba what Elon Musk is to Tesla – occasionally, bigger than the company itself. These tech tycoons greatly influence how markets respond to their respective companies' shares. So much for analysts' estimates of stock performance, eh?
