Microsoft also ups its messaging platform game, shelling out $10b for Discord

Now, this partnership is giving us “boss level” feels — Microsoft (MSFT) is reportedly in talks to buy Discord, the messaging platform that all the gamers rave about. The tech behemoth is apparently willing to shell out $10b in the acquisition deal, so you know that Discord has got to have a pretty large userbase!

The news comes amidst Microsoft’s many recent efforts to penetrate the gaming industry (we’re reminiscing of its recent acquisitions of Mojang and ZeniMax Media). Given that the global gaming market is expected to reach over $250b by 2025, we can’t say we’re surprised at all the commotion there — in fact, we’re kind of jelly and want in on the action too!

The video game industry has boomed over the past few year as people had to find sources of at-home entertainment (thank you, Covid-19!). Just recently, gaming company Roblox (RBLX) recorded an epic stock market debut via direct listing, upping the entry-level to “advanced” and forcing others to step up.
