Instagram pulling a fast one on TikTok?

Uh-oh, Instagram is coming after another social media rival yet again.

The company confirmed it is working on a “vertical stories” feed, which would resemble… yep, you guessed it, TikTok.

Instagram had already somewhat “borrowed” from TikTok to create their video-focused Reels feature, which many users actually use to share their original TikTok videos.

But, with the new vertical Instagram stories, the social media outlet would likely be shifting to a more video-focused layout overall and stop prioritizing static content (aka pictures) so much.

Let’s not forget that the stories feature was essentially replicated from Snapchat’s previous look altogether – so much savagery!

why it matters
Social media platforms live off of keeping up with the times and audiences are always hungry for further dynamic updates. Instagram and Snapchat have not managed to keep up with the growth of TikTok, the new kid on the block. FYI, its parent company, ByteDance, reported a revenue of $5.6b in the first three months of 2020 alone! No wonder Facebook is eager to take a bigger chunk of the video content market.
