Huawei heads over to Saudi Arabia and promises to dazzle retail customers

Huawei is looking to make an impression in Riyadh as the Chinese telecommunication giant is about to open its largest flagship store outside of its home country.

The new store, which will be located in Riyadh Front will offer customers its usual retail services and showcase the brand’s famous (and slightly controversial) 5G and artificial intelligence technologies. Huawei has been in Saudi for about 20 years already and with this expansion seems to be placing a greater strategic emphasis on the MENA region.

why it matters
Huawei has faced a huge drop in sales in the United States ever since the Trump administration effectively banned it from American communication networks. Other countries, such as the UK and Sweden, also banned the use of Huawei’s equipment in their 5G networks due to fears over how the company’s relationship with the Chinese government could result in user privacy breaches. It seems, therefore, that the company is targeting the MENA region to expand its international operations.
