Gulftainer's $50m expansion plans

Gulftainer's subsidiary, the UAE-based Gulf Stevedoring Contracting Company (GSCCO), is planning a $50m expansion in Jubail's Commercial Port (JCP) on Saudi Arabia's east coast. The expansion will include the installation of new equipment, together with the acquisition of new assets that will significantly improve the port's handling capacity.

GSCCO has been collaborating with Saudi Arabia since 2008 and is now one of the major port operators in the country. Through previous expansions, GSCCO has already contributed to increasing Jubail's port capacity from 50,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) to 700,000 TEUs.

Why it matters

GSCCO's expansion is in line with the goals outlined by the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program of Saudi Vision 2030. Other than unlocking the full potential of Saudi Arabia's global logistics hub, GSCCO will train and hire Saudi nationals, helping the country to increase employment substantially.
