Dropbox puts down a dowry of $165m for DocSend

Two of the most recognizable tech names of our generation are also tying the knot. Dropbox (the app that still holds your pre-pandemic party photos) is planning to buy DocSend (the app that you’ve probably used to renew your tenancy agreement post-pandemic) for $165m.

Dropbox (DBX) plans to leverage DocSend to expand its remote work tools portfolio. The tech giant also bought HelloSign in 2019, which is best known for its e-signature feature, so this acquisition seems to be very much in line with a wider product strategy plan.

why it matters
With the new deal, Dropbox's document-sharing workflow can potentially compete more fiercely with that of other key players such as Google Drive and Box. By the way, it’s worth pointing out that the latter also bought an electronic signature startup recently.
