Microsoft’s (MSFT) teaming up with heads of state now — the Belgian Prime Minister being one of them. The company just announced a few days ago that it’ll be partnering up with the prime minister for a multi-year investment plan that’ll help the country undergo a full digital makeover.

According to the news, Microsoft plans to help Belgium generate roughly $35.3b in revenues and add 60k jobs to the economy over the next four years. The plan is centered around a new data center with advanced data security and cloud solutions.

For all you ESG folk out there, don’t fret — Microsoft has made it clear that this will be in line with the company’s goal to shift 100% of its data centers’ energy to renewable sources by 2025. Key stakeholders across Belgium have already begun to explore opportunities for collaboration… Microsoft’s cloud solutions provide unlimited functionality for public transport, cybersecurity, and telecommunications.

Why it matters

The new project gives Belgium the world’s largest cloud infrastructure and solidifies Microsoft’s 32-year history in the country. It also paves a blueprint for other big tech companies looking to integrate their platforms on a national scale.
