Amazon (AMZN) wrapped up its September product launch event and there’s a whole host of fancy gadgets in store for us. With a cool home robot, a smart thermostat, and a new fitness smartwatch lined up (to name a few), if we had to pick one clear theme across Amazon’s seven new goodies it would be 'home and health' — pretty Covid-19 inspired, no?
The company’s new Amazon Astro is an autonomous AI-driven robot that’s able to act as a guard-bot, play music, and control smart home appliances — basically Alexa’s physical counterpart. Amazon also released an update to its Halo health tracker: Halo View. The new wearable comes with a nutrition tracker (via integration) with Amazon’s Whole Foods. But, Amazon might want to make sure its tech is in sound shape as reports of patrolling issues with Astro have come out already.
Why it matters
Over the last five days, Amazon’s share price has been down by 3.4% — still, Halo View's competition makers like Peloton (PTON) and Apple (APPL) are on the run as Amazon's large e-commerce reserves cross-selling opportunities.
